Global alert: Substandard sanitary napkins are rampant, putting women's health at risk
Recently, the safety problem of sanitary napkins has spread from some regions to the global scope, attracting widespread attention from the international community. In many countries, consumers have complained that some low-priced sanitary napkin products have suspected black cotton fillings. This phenomenon is like a surging tide, impacting the confidence of female consumers around the world and causing them to fall into deep worry.

During a secret market visit in a Southeast Asian country, investigators found that some low-priced sanitary napkins had simple and rough packaging and unclear printing. When the package was opened, a pungent smell came to the face. The internal filling was gray and rough, which was completely different from the soft and white fluff pulp of regular products. When the surface was torn open, a large amount of impurities could be seen, and even black unidentified objects were mixed in, which were suspected to be processed from recycled garbage cotton.
In a European country, a female consumer named Anna told her story. In order to save money, she bought several packs of affordable sanitary napkins at a local small supermarket. During use, she had severe itching and redness and swelling in her lower body, which was unbearable. At first, Anna thought it was a personal hygiene problem, but after changing to other brands of sanitary napkins, the symptoms were quickly relieved. "I never thought that the sanitary napkins we use every day would have such serious problems. This is related to the personal health of us women. It's terrible!" Anna said with lingering fear.
After receiving many similar complaints, the relevant departments quickly launched large-scale random inspections of sanitary napkin products worldwide. Shockingly, the detection rate of black-hearted cotton in products produced by some small workshops is as high as 30%. These small workshops have a poor production environment and extremely poor sanitary conditions. Workers work without any protective measures. The production equipment is outdated and the raw materials are randomly piled up, which does not meet the hygiene standards at all.

It is understood that black-hearted cotton is usually simply processed from discarded clothes, fabrics, medical waste, etc., and carries a large number of bacteria, viruses and harmful substances. Women have weak body resistance during menstruation. Using sanitary napkins containing black-hearted cotton can easily cause gynecological inflammation, such as vaginitis, cervicitis, etc., and in severe cases, it may even lead to infertility.
Industry insiders revealed that the reason why black-hearted cotton sanitary napkins can circulate in the global market is mainly because of their extremely low production cost. The fluff pulp used by regular sanitary napkin manufacturers is expensive, while the procurement cost of black-hearted cotton is only a fraction of the regular raw materials. Driven by high profits, some unscrupulous merchants are willing to take risks and produce and sell such inferior products. In addition, some consumers are not able to distinguish the quality of sanitary napkins and pay too much attention to prices, which also provides opportunities for these black-hearted products.

Experts from the World Health Organization call on global consumers to raise their awareness of self-protection, choose regular channels and well-known brands when purchasing sanitary napkins, and carefully check product packaging, production date, shelf life and implementation standards. At the same time, relevant departments of various countries should increase supervision, crack down on illegal production and sales of black-hearted cotton sanitary napkins, increase the cost of violations, and protect the health rights and interests of female consumers from the source.
